How Undrdog Glass Cleaner Will Help You Get Streak-Free Windows Every Time

Cleaning windows is a tedious task, but one that’s worth doing.

Why?

Because it doesn’t matter that you cleaned both the exterior and interior of your car to perfection and topped it all off with a quick detailer if your windows are still dirty. Plus, driving with cloudy, streaky glass is a hazard!

Thankfully, window cleaning takes ten minutes max.

When you’re done, you’ll be super pleased to have squeaky-clean windows without all the mud, dust, tree sap bird poop, insect splatter, grease, and other road debris.

Keep in mind though that Windex and an old rag just won’t cut it.

To achieve an optimal sparkly finish on your windows, you need a dedicated auto glass cleaner and high-quality microfiber towels

Car Glass Maintenance Matters

Car glass is often taken for granted and its maintenance is rarely a top priority. Yet, it’s more important than you might think.

Obviously, automotive glass allows the driver and passengers to see out - it’s there for visibility. However, visibility will be less-than-stellar if you neglect your windows and windshields. And poor visibility increases the risk of car crashes by around 30%!

Unfortunately, windshields get dirty pretty quickly. The main culprits are common road occurrences. Things like bugs, oil, dirt and dust, rain, tree sap, tar, ice, road salt, and other types of contaminants.

Depending on where you live, you might face the same issues (e.g. rain and insects in Florida) or different ones throughout the year (e.g. tree sap in spring & ice in the winter in Maine). Limiting exposure to these sources of contamination will help keep your car glass clean for longer, but there’s only so much you can do if your vehicle is a daily driver. The only way to ensure safety is to clean your car glass routinely.

Visibility is not the only purpose of automotive glass, though. It’s actually a crucial safety component that helps preserve your car’s integrity.

This is because the glass surfaces in your car aren’t like the glass surfaces in your home. In fact, even the materials that make up your car's front and rear windshield differ from those that make up its side windows.

All the glass in cars is commercial-grade, designed specifically for automotive use. It comes in two types: laminated and tempered glass.

Laminated glass is used for windshields. It’s engineered to resist force and impact, so it’s hard to break. Even if you do break it, laminated glass will shatter but still hold its form, minimizing the risk of injury.

Tempered glass is used for the side and rear windows. It’s designed to withstand daily wear and tear and provide safety. Unlike annealed glass which breaks into large, dangerous shards, tempered glass disintegrates into small granular chunks that are relatively harmless.

To achieve the best results when cleaning and prevent accidental damage to both types of glass in your car, you need to have appropriate cleaning tools.

First things first - an auto glass cleaner.

If you’re using a household window cleaner on your car, you need to stop. Like now

Most over-the-counter window cleaners contain ammonia to enhance cleaning power and ensure cost-effectiveness. This is great for in-house surface cleaning, like for tubs, sinks, toilets, and tiles. But not for automotive glass, especially if your car has tinted windows. Ammonia will break down the adhesive that keeps your tint in place, causing it to fade and peel over time.

If you think you’re fine because you don’t have window tint, think again!

Household window cleaners streak. Badly. And streaks can be detrimental to your visibility when driving. The thing is, car glass is much dirtier than your bathroom mirror or shower door. It’s naturally exposed to a lot more contamination. Using products that were not designed to tackle this kind of dirt means you’ll put in the elbow grease and not get the results you want.

Oh, and if you’re having trouble with foggy windows & glare, that might be your household glass cleaner too.

To avoid these issues and ensure a streak-free finish, you need a commercial auto glass cleaner in your maintenance arsenal.

However, all auto glass cleaners aren’t created equal either.

Each product has a different chemical makeup that can have a significant impact on the cleaning experience and results. Some auto glass cleaners will be too harsh on tinted windows, while others will be too weak to remove stubborn dirt and grime.

What most of these products have in common is the fact that they’re ammonia-free. Instead, they use alcohol, vinegar, and other surfactants for cleaning power. This makes them safe for all types of car windows, but also the environment! Still, you have to check the label and pay close attention to the ingredients.

The reason is that some car care product manufacturers repackage ordinary household cleaners. We don’t even want to get into that. Other companies get to have an “extremely powerful” formula because their products contain ammonia. But that means their products are harmful to vinyl, rubber, leather, and chrome. Not to mention your health!

Undrdog Window Warsh is not like that. We carefully formulated it so it thoroughly cleans the dirt off of your car glass without causing scratches or swirl marks. Window Warsh is ammonia and dye-free, sun-safe, and works on all surfaces. Plus, it preserves glass and leaves it sparkly & streak-free.

How To Use Window Warsh

Window Warsh isn’t just a window cleaner - it’s a game-changer!

When To Use Window Warsh

You can definitely clean your car windows at any time you want. However, for the best results, we suggest doing it after you’ve finished cleaning the rest of your car. This way you can ensure that all the dirt and debris that drips down from the roof and hood during the washing process doesn’t end up on your windows.

In any case, most auto glass cleaners require you to work indoors or find a cool, shady spot. Otherwise, the product evaporates too quickly. Undrdog’s Window Warsh is different! It’s completely safe to use outside, even in direct sunlight.

Before you begin cleaning, remove all the debris that has been collecting in the wiper blade area. You can do this by hand, or use a vacuum cleaner with an appropriate attachment.

Start with the outside of your windows, namely the front & back windshield. If they’re super dirty, you can use a dry microfiber towel first to remove loose pollen and grime. Clean both windshields with our towel-folding method and move onto side windows.

Roll your side windows down enough to clean the top portion that nests inside the rubber seal. Leave it to air dry or wipe it with a dry microfiber towel before rolling the windows back up. While you’re at it, clean your side mirrors too.

Once the exterior of your windows is clean, get inside and tackle the front windshield. If you struggling to reach certain spots, a microfiber cleaner wand can help. Next up are the side windows and the driver mirror.

When you’re done in the front seat, get in the back and clean the back windshield. Last, but not least, wipe down your wiper blades and check all surfaces for any residue. That’s it!
